Welcome back, CMESS families. September is a short month but a full one — first day, our Welcome Back BBQ, two outdoor trips, and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Here is the whole month in one place.

First Day of School — half day
Regular 8:40 AM start. Students meet their teachers and go home before lunch; dismissal time to follow.
10THU
NSOP: Snorkelling with Salmon — Conuma Hatchery
Secondary students see the salmon run up close. Permission forms go home Sept 8 and must be back Sept 9.

School Not in Session

Welcome Back BBQ and Open House — 12:00 noon
Everyone is welcome. Lunch, classroom visits, and a chance to meet the staff. Bring family and neighbours.
19–21SAT–MON
Surfing in Tofino — Grades 10–12
An overnight trip to the coast. Packing list, times, and forms will follow for participating families.
24THU
Whole School Field Trip — destination to be confirmed
A power outage in Tahsis means the whole school will be off-site together. Details to come.
25FRI
Professional Development Day — no school
28MON
Terry Fox Run
A whole-school run. Students should dress for the weather and be ready to be outside.
29TUE
Picture Day and Orange Shirt Day
Photos in the morning; ordering information to follow. We wear orange on the 29th because the 30th is not a school day.
30WED
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — no school
A statutory day of remembrance. Families are encouraged to take part in community observances.

Getting the year started well
Doors and bells
Breakfast is available from 8:00 AM. Classes begin at 8:40 AM for both panels. Elementary dismisses at 3:05 PM, Secondary at 3:17 PM.
What to bring
The school provides classroom supplies. Students need indoor shoes, gym strip, a water bottle, and a backpack.
Staying in touch
Please call the office to report an absence, and check backpacks in the first week — several forms come home right away.
