Welcome to Captain Meares Elementary Secondary School. We are a large school with a very small student population. Our school is located on Vancouver Island at the end of a sixty-two kilometer logging road accessed through Gold River. Our caring staff is small and offers a uniquely individualized education program. Our multi-grade classes use a combination of skill building and individualized learning opportunities. The families that come to Tahsis enjoy the beautiful landscape at the end of a long ocean fiord. The relaxed and inexpensive life is a draw to many people who make Tahsis their home.
Our school building renovations are completed and students will be able to attend brand new upgraded classrooms this September. There is also a brand new early years playground completed this August available for school and community use.

Important Notes:
Cell Phone Use: The BC Government has mandated cell phone restrictions during instructional time for the entire province. The restrictions are meant to create a safe and productive learning environment. This September 2024, cell phone use during instructional time (bell to bell) is not permitted at Captain Meares Elementary Secondary School. (See Code of Conduct).
School Parking: All vehicles as of September 1, 2024 will be required to park on the South gravel lot and enter the school through the main doors at the end of the sidewalk.
School Construction Zone: Beginning during the first week of September until the end of June, the North parking lot on school grounds will be closed for demolition and construction as the City of Tahsis begins work on repurposing the old school shop for a new fire hall. All local residents who have been using the parking lot for storage or residential parking will need to remove their vehicles and find other parking arrangements. There will be a site manager present during working hours who will need to be contacted before anyone enters the site.
